Tween 80 is a secondary emulsifier used in the manufacture of inverse polymer emulsions and defoamer formulations. Tween 80 is an alkoxylated sorbitan ester; it can be used in combination with a primary emulsifier to produce stable emulsion systems. Primary and secondary emulsifiers, with low and high HLB values respectively, are generally mixed to create optimised emulsifier systems suitable for a specific application. Croda offers a range of primary emulsifiers under the Span trade name to complement the Tween products in these systems. Tween 80 is FDA approved for use in indirect food contact applications, for more information on this please contact the local sales team. Croda’s Tween range can be produced from a variety of feed stock to diverse specifications.
